Many School Refusal Students in Japan, VLP 3D Metaverse Introduced: According to the 2023 Ministry of Education survey, school refusal students at Japanese elementary and middle schools reached 300,000 -- a 22% increase compared to 2021. Bullying incidents at Japanese elementary, middle, and high schools reached 680,000 cases -- an 11% increase compared to 2021. VLP (Virtual Learning Platform) metaverse system is being evaluated as effective for learning achievement and academic motivation, with Tokyo and 21 local governments deciding to adopt it. VLP is a virtual space built by 3D metaverse space, providing various educational content online without time and location constraints. School refusal students (futoko) in Japan face an impossible dilemma: they are falling behind academically while also being unable to attend school; VLP enables these students to participate in education from home within a virtual environment that feels less threatening than physical school; the avatar-mediated interaction allows students to participate without the social visibility that triggers anxiety in physical school settings; the 3D environment provides more engaging educational content than video lectures.
