Gwangju to Build AX Demonstration Valley and Open Science Gifted School — Growing as 'AI Capital City'

The government announced on the 5th at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) the holding of "Civil Affairs Discussion Meeting with the People: Twenty-eighth, Gwangju Designing the Future with Advanced Technology and Culture" and the establishment of an AX (AI Transformation) demonstration valley in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The plan is to create an AI Science Gifted School in Gwangju to develop it as a representative AI city, and to make Gwangju the representative cluster of the future automotive industry based on the Future Vehicle National Industrial Complex and autonomous driving component/material/equipment specialized complex. The AX demonstration valley concept: a designated zone where AI technologies are tested in real urban environments -- smart traffic management, AI-assisted public services, autonomous vehicle infrastructure, and AI-powered manufacturing; Gwangju is positioning itself as an AI implementation testbed that can attract AI companies and research investment; the Science Gifted School will provide the talent pipeline for this ecosystem. The future automotive industry cluster: Gwangju already has automotive manufacturing presence (Gwangju Global Motors - GGM, the innovative labor-cost-model automaker); the autonomous driving component specialization adds the next-generation technology layer to existing manufacturing expertise; the combination of AI infrastructure (AX valley) and autonomous driving specialization creates a coherent industrial ecosystem strategy. Additional plans: Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system construction to improve urban mobility; Water Circulation Promotion Zone designation for environmental sustainability; new Biennale exhibition hall and Gwangju Representative Library and Cultural Complex construction to strengthen the city cultural infrastructure alongside the technology investments.
