Sogang University Graduate School of Metaverse announced on the 26th that it participated consecutively in metaverse-related events including the "2024 Global Metaverse Conference (GMC)" held at Yangjae aT Center in Seoul on the 18th, focusing on announcing the latest technology and research achievements. The 2024 GMC was an event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and co-organized by Sogang University Graduate School of Metaverse, with participation from multiple organizations including International Metaverse Association (IMA), Metaverse Convergence Graduate School Council, and National IT Industry Promotion Agency to discuss the current state and future of the metaverse industry. Sogang University Graduate School of Metaverse Dean Hyun Dae-won introduced the virtual pet simulator "Mari" -- an AI-powered companion pet that exists in a virtual environment; users can interact with Mari through natural conversation; the pet responds with expressions and behaviors based on the emotional context of the conversation; the application demonstrates metaverse emotional AI technology that goes beyond simple avatar interaction. The Mari application represents a category of metaverse applications focused on companionship and emotional support -- particularly relevant for elderly isolation, children with social anxiety, and people seeking low-pressure social interaction practice environments.
