English, Spanish, and German Support to Expand Global Readership
U.S. Amazon (Amazon) unveiled its own AI translation service 'Kindle Translate' on November 7 (local time). The service supports automatic translation between English↔Spanish and German→English, and a beta service has begun for selected Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) authors.
'Kindle Translate' utilizes AI translation technology to help authors quickly translate and publish their e-books (eBooks) in multiple languages.
According to Amazon, currently less than 5% of all e-books registered on Amazon.com have multilingual versions, and the goal of this service is to "open a channel for self-publishing authors to meet global readers without language barriers."

Authors can easily manage language selection for translation, price setting, and review and publication decisions for translations in the KDP portal. AI-generated translations undergo automatic quality verification (AI evaluation) before publication, and authors can preview the result or set it to auto-publish after approval.
Translation completion takes within a few days, and completed e-books can be published in automatically formatted form.
Readers can check books with the 'Kindle Translate' label in the Amazon store and can verify quality through a translation sample (Preview) before purchasing.
Also, translations can be registered in the KDP Select program and Kindle Unlimited subscription service same as existing e-books.
This service is evaluated as an attempt that advances KDP's (Kindle Direct Publishing) 'author-centered global distribution strategy' by one step.
KDP author Kristen Painter stated: "Foreign language translation not only opens new readership, but gives my work a 'second life.' It is one of the wisest ways to simultaneously expand revenue and influence."
Amazon plans to verify translation quality, copyright, localization issues, etc. through this beta version and then expand the scope to multiple languages such as French, Japanese, and Korean going forward.
It also plans to maintain a transparent labeling policy for translation results and operate a continuous improvement feedback loop for AI-generated translations.
'Kindle Translate' is establishing itself not as a simple translation tool but as an AI literary platform that removes the barriers to global entry for authors.
With AI translation sophistication and publication automation combined, authors can now convey their stories to the world in real time without being trapped by language limitations.
