- Governor Kim Yeong-rok Meets Alphabet Chair and Other AI Big Tech CEOs to Request Investment
South Jeolla Province signed a "Solasido AI Super Cluster Hub" construction MOU with FIR HILLS, Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development, and Haenam County on February 26 (local time) at Hyatt Hotel San Francisco. Under the agreement, total investment of 15 trillion won (7 trillion won by 2028, 8 trillion won by 2030) will be deployed across approximately 1.2 million pyeong in Haenam's Sanyi-myeon Guseong District to create a 3GW+ "AI Super Cluster Hub" — the world's largest scale, surpassing North Virginia's 2.5GW and Beijing's 1.8GW.
The hub will include AI computing infrastructure (AI model research and training center), data centers, and large-scale ESS. Stock Farm Road (SFR, parent company) and FIR HILLS (subsidiary) will connect Silicon Valley big tech and global investors with South Jeolla Province's wide land, abundant power and water, outstanding talent, seismic stability, and RE100 achievement potential to increase investment feasibility through big tech and investor fundraising. South Jeolla Province will advance the 154kV substation within the Solasido enterprise city to 2028 (2 years ahead of schedule) and actively support essential infrastructure construction. Governor Kim Yeong-rok met with Alphabet Chair John Hennessy, Microsoft Deputy CTO Sam Schillace, and Steve Westley of Westley Group the following day to request investment in what he called "a cornerstone for Korea's resurgence and global AI industry advancement in the era of AI transformation."
