Tesla discontinued the Cybertruck Long Range (RWD) model -- only 5 months after its April launch. This model was the most affordable Cybertruck option starting at 69,990 USD using rear-wheel drive, but is no longer available on Tesla official website. Consumers can now only purchase the 79,990 USD AWD model or the minimum 114,990 USD Cyberbeast. The Long Range model was controversial from launch: when Elon Musk first announced it in 2019 promising approximately 40,000 USD, the actual selling price was nearly 30,000 USD higher. Features were also reduced: Power Tonneau Cover, adaptive suspension, rear touchscreen, truck bed outlet, and rear lightbar (all emphasized at initial announcement) were excluded; interior simplified to Cloth. It did provide 350 miles range -- 100 miles longer than the originally announced 250 miles -- so driving efficiency improved. However, 70,000 USD remained widely criticized as burdensome -- particularly compared to the similarly priced Ford F-150 Lightning Extended Range (approximately 65,000 USD) with better utility for truck use cases and Ford service network advantages. The Cybertruck market position problem: designed as a luxury/performance product rather than a utility truck, making the lower-priced variant value proposition unclear; consumers wanting a capable truck had better alternatives, while consumers attracted to Cybertruck design wanted the full Cyberbeast performance.
