Next Generation Convergence Content Industry Association announced it will hold various challenge events until Wednesday November 27 to commemorate the first anniversary of the service opening of the North Gyeongsang metaverse platform "Metaport." Metaport is a project that North Gyeongsang Province has been pursuing for 3 years from 2022 to 2024 with a project cost of 3 billion KRW -- the first expandable hybrid metaverse integrated platform in the country connecting virtual and reality. Since starting official service on November 20 last year, it has been updating content including the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport which is the main space of Metaport, along with shopping malls, North Gyeongsang Provincial Office, and convention hall content. The 1-year anniversary milestone: reaching 1 year of operation is significant for regional metaverse platforms which have historically struggled with post-launch engagement; the challenge event format (user-generated content competitions, community activities) aims to activate the user base and create organic content that the platform itself did not need to produce; the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Integrated New Airport virtual environment serves a practical pre-visit orientation function as the physical airport (under construction) approaches its planned opening.
