BlackRock Lists First Bitcoin ETP in Europe: World largest asset manager BlackRock launched a new Bitcoin investment product in Europe. This product is a Bitcoin ETP (Exchange-Traded Product) where returns are determined by Bitcoin prices -- tradeable on exchanges like stocks. The product was simultaneously listed on major securities exchanges in Germany, France, and the Netherlands on March 25. The name is iShares Bitcoin ETP with tickers IB1T or BTCN. This is BlackRock first cryptocurrency investment product launched outside the US, a key element of global market entry strategy. The European Bitcoin ETP context: BlackRock US Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) launched in January 2024 became the fastest ETF in history to reach 10 billion USD in assets; the European ETP extends this success to the European market which has different regulatory frameworks (ETPs rather than ETFs for cryptocurrency products in Europe); BlackRock European product carries the iShares brand (BlackRock most recognized fund brand) signaling institutional quality standards that other Bitcoin ETPs in Europe may lack. The institutional adoption signal: when the worlds largest asset manager with 10+ trillion USD in assets under management lists cryptocurrency products globally, it validates Bitcoin as a legitimate institutional asset class.
