Korea Education and Culture Foundation Chair and Officials Attend, Emphasizing Importance of Broadcast Criticism

The Korea Broadcasting Critics Association (President Lee Sun-mo) held its "2024 Broadcasting Critics Award Ceremony" on the 26th at Sogang University's Gabriel Hall. The ceremony, now in its 17th year since 2006, selected outstanding programs across six categories: drama, radio, current affairs/culture, entertainment, documentary, and social media.

Winners: Drama — "Lady Bok" (JTBC); Radio — "Regional Survival Project: How Are You, Our Hometown?" (MBC); Current Affairs/Culture — "TV Animal Farm" (SBS); Entertainment — "Black and White Chef: Culinary Class Wars" (Netflix); Documentary — "The Face of Money" (EBS); Social Media — "NJT_BOOK" (YouTube). The judging process ran approximately two months from January, with divisional committees selecting three nominees per category before the full jury made final unanimous decisions. Jury Chair Yoo Hong-sik (professor, Chung-Ang University): "The broadcasting environment is rapidly changing — significant discussion arose about whether to classify OTT content as broadcasting, ultimately deciding to select content-centered rather than channel-bound works in keeping with the changing times." Association President Lee Sun-mo: "Broadcast criticism as a proper navigator is becoming increasingly important as text is being weaponized through capital."
